THE PRIESTHOOD IN FILM: MCCAREY’S “THE BELLS OF ST. MARY’S”

Thursday, July 21, 2016 @ 6:30 pm

Ivy Hall Nights at the Movies presents…

The Priesthood in Film
Throughout 2016, on the third Thursday of each month, we will be showing a film in Ivy Hall’s ballroom featuring a different cinematic portrayal of a priest. You’re invited to join us as we explore these various portrayals and discuss, during the social period following each film, the good, the bad, and the ugly of Hollywood’s depictions of the Catholic Church in general and the priesthood in particular.

For the month of July, our film will be…

Leo McCarey’s The Bells of St. Mary’s (1945)
At a big city Catholic school, Father O’Malley and Sister Benedict indulge in friendly rivalry, and succeed in extending the school through the gift of a building.

Starring: Bing Crosby, Ingrid Bergman

Doors will open at 6:30 PM; film at 7:00 PM.

Suggested donation is $5.00. Popcorn will be provided, and the events are BYOB.

A social period for discussion and fellowship will follow each film.

Feel free to bring your own favorite lawn chair, camping chair, bean-bag lounge, or other portable furniture to make yourself comfortable during the movie! (Aluminum folding chairs will be provided for all guests, but it’s good to be able to curl up in a favorite and familiar piece of furniture while enjoying a good film.)

Suggested donation is $5.00. Popcorn will be provided, and the events are BYOB.
