Juon: Piano Trio No. 1 in A minor, Op. 17 (1901)
Three movements: Allegro – Poco meno mosso; Adagio non troppo in F major; Rondo. Allegro. Warm late-Romantic writing with Slavic color. A singing slow movement and a dancing finale.

Shostakovich: Piano Trio No. 1 in C minor, Op. 8 (1923)
Single-movement “Poème.” Written as a teenager, age 16–17. Dedicated to Tatyana Glivenko. A chain of contrasting sections from Andante to a Prestissimo fantastico. Late-Romantic lyric lines meet sharper youthful edges.

Mendelssohn: Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 49 (1839/40)
Four movements. The cello unveils the first theme in a dramatic opening. An Andante in the spirit of a Song without Words. A quicksilver Scherzo. A virtuosic finale. Schumann hailed it as “the master trio of our age.”

KAIROS TRIO

Kairos Trio is one of the latest ensembles to join the flourishing Philadelphia chamber music scene. A piano trio comprised of pianist Kasia Marzec-Salwinski, violinist Tom DiSarlo and cellist Talia Schiff, they knew immediately that this was an ensemble that was meant to be. Delving into both the great warhorses of the piano trio literature as well as discovering and presenting lesser-known works in this medium, the musicians bring to this new venture a collective knowledge from their past musical experiences fueled by a rekindled passion to share their creative output.

Thomas DiSarlo, violin

Concertmaster and solo violinist of the AmaDeus Ensemble since 1991. Former member of the Rutgers String Quartet, Pennsylvania String Quartet, and the Concerto Soloists of Philadelphia. Recordings include the Beethoven Violin Concerto and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Performed Bruch’s Scottish Phantasy with the Pittsburgh Symphony as a graduate competition winner.

Talia Schiff, cello

Attended Kneisel Hall and Bowdoin Chamber Music Festivals. Winner of the Austrian American Society Competition, performing in Salzburg, Austria. Founding member of the Castalia String Trio, semifinalists in Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. Founding member of Elysian Camerata. Played with Delaware Symphony and Princeton Symphony Orchestras, and Opera NJ Orchestra as principal cellist. Performed with Philly Pops, Opera Philadelphia, and the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Kasia Marzec-Salwinski, piano

International recitalist and chamber musician with appearances across Europe, the United States, the Middle East, and Japan, including Carnegie Hall. Co-founder and Artistic Director of Fine Art Music Company. DMA, Temple University. Affiliate Artist at Haverford College.
