For hundereds of years, Mardi Gras, literally translated 'Fat Tuesday', has provided an opportunity for levity and merriment for Christians before they enter into a period of penance and earnest mortification for the season of Lent. It reminds us that the rhythm of Catholic life is one of both fasting and feasting. And remember that Ash Wednesday on March 5th is a day of fast and abstinence and the beginning of our Lenten discipline. |
