Madonna and Child in Western Art
and Contemporary Photography

TIME:

November 18, 2023    7:00 PM

EVENT DESCRIPTION:

The extraordinary beauty of so many representations of the Blessed Mother with her holy Child often diverts us from realizing the simple, everyday life Mary had as a wife and mother in her community. The photographer Jessica Todd-Harper effectively captures the beauty of the "everyday" in her portraits. Come join us at Ivy Hall for a talk and visual presentation by Jessica.

She is currently a featured artist in "Kinship" at The National Portrait Gallery at The Smithsonian until January 2024. Through her photography Jessica illuminates the beauty and worth of everyday moments. She will discuss how the tradition of Madonna and Child paintings influenced her contemporary portraits of the family such as Self-Portrait with Marshall, 2008. Copies of her new book of photography "Here" will be available at the talk. It is a joy and a privilege for the IIC to be able to present such talent from our own community.

There will be a light reception to follow.

(Donations may be made at the door by credit card, cash, check, or Venmo)
