MONTHLY MEETING OF THE SOUTHEAST PA CHESTERTON SOCIETY: LECTURE - CHESTERTON AND KIERKEGAARD

TIME:

July 15, 2018    6:30 PM

EVENT DESCRIPTION:

Join the Southeast Pennsylvania Chesterton Society for their next monthly meeting, which will feature a special lecture by Society member Joseph Grabowski.

The lecture will be a preview of Joseph's upcoming talk at the 37th Annual Chesterton Conference, to be held in Orlando later this summer.

Joseph's talk will focus on G.K. Chesterton and the Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard, exploring how the latter can be a useful touchstone for Chesterton studies and help bolster Chesterton's own position as a serious philosopher worthy of study.

The unique and inventive programme of Kierkegaard is interestingly paralleled in Chesterton's own thought in several notable ways, despite Chesterton's unfamiliarity with the work of his Danish antecedent. In the lecture, Joseph will attempt to demonstrate that, insofar as these similarities exists, many of the honors heaped upon Kierkegaard's legacy - e.g. the effectiveness of his critique upon Hegel, the originality of his account of faith and epistemology, the contributions of his thought to the development of Christian existentialism and personalism, etc. - can in many ways be urged to be granted to Chesterton's philosophy as well.

All are welcome to attend. Please do join the Society for this special meeting, and bring a friend!
